For the time being, Austria’s peaceful late-summer weather has ended: From night to Sunday, a cold front will reach Austria, which will cause a significant cooling. In the morning, the experts of Geosphere Austria forecast locally also minus temperatures.

In the north and east, Friday will start with a few remaining clouds, but sunshine will soon prevail here. Otherwise, the sun will shine from early to late, and it will be hot for this time of year in the afternoon. In the Danube region, a moderate westerly wind will blow at first. Otherwise, the wind will often weaken and shift to southerly directions during the day. Early temperatures will range from seven to 15 degrees Celsius, while daily highs will range from 20 to 27 degrees.

In inner alpine basins and valleys on Saturday, partly tenacious fog patches may persist longer into the morning. It will also often be sunny, with denser clouds spreading from the west only in the afternoon. This will accompany the first rain showers in the afternoon in Tyrol and Vorarlberg; lightning and thunder may also be present locally. The wind will remain primarily weak but will pick up in the afternoon, especially in the north and east, moderate to brisk from the west. Early temperatures will reach six to 16 degrees, daytime highs 16 to 26 degrees, with the highest values in the east and south.

Temperature plunge
After the passage of a cold front, some clouds will initially persist on Sunday, and it will still rain a little, most in the south. But also, on the northern side of the Alps, a few raindrops are still to be expected; here, the snow line drops to around 1,500 meters, and in the south, it remains much higher. It will remain predominantly dry in the east. During the day, the clouds will clear more and more from the north, becoming sunnier. The wind will blow weakly to moderately from the northwest; in Lower Austria, it can also freshen up briskly in parts. Early temperatures will range from seven to 15 degrees, and daytime highs will mostly only be 9 to 16 degrees.

On Monday, generally calm autumn weather will prevail again. There will be a few patches of early fog, but the sun will come out everywhere during the day. In the afternoon, especially in the south and west, harmless cloud fields are expected to increase. Winds from the south to the east will be light to moderate. Early temperatures will range from minus one to plus eight degrees, with daytime highs between nine and 15 degrees.

More clouds will move through on Tuesday than last time, so it will not be quite as sunny. Especially in the west, individual raindrops can not be excluded entirely but mostly will remain dry. The wind will be light to moderate, often from easterly directions. Early temperatures: minus one to plus six degrees; daily highs: ten to 17 degrees.
